Scripture for reflection:

  1. God’s truth: You are the man
    1. Psalm 53:1–3 (ESV) The fool says in his heart, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, doing abominable iniquity; there is none who does good. God looks down from heaven on the children of man to see if there are any who understand, who seek after God. They have all fallen away; together they have become corrupt; there is none who does good, not even one.
    2. 3 John 11 (ESV) 11 Beloved, do not imitate evil but imitate good. Whoever does good is from God; whoever does evil has not seen God.
    3. Romans 3:12 (ESV)  12 All have turned aside; together they have become worthless; no one does good, not even one.”
  2. My ability to handle Recognition
    1. Isaiah 6:5 (ESV)And I said: “Woe is me! For I am lost; for I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts!”
    2. Luke 5:8 (ESV) But when Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, “Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord.”
    3. Romans 7:15 (ESV) 15 For I do not understand my own actions. For I do not do what I want, but I do the very thing I hate.
    4. Romans 7:18–19 (ESV) 18 For I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, in my flesh. For I have the desire to do what is right, but not the ability to carry it out. 19 For I do not do the good I want, but the evil I do not want is what I keep on doing.
  3. My willingness to accept Responsibility
    1. 2 Corinthians 7:1 (ESV) Since we have these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from every defilement of body and spirit, bringing holiness to completion in the fear of God.
    2. Romans 7:24–25 (ESV) 24 Wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death? 25 Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, I myself serve the law of God with my mind, but with my flesh I serve the law of sin
    3. Jeremiah 17:9–10 (ESV) The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it? 10 “I the Lord search the heart and test the mind, to give every man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his deeds.”
    4. Psalm 139:1–2 (ESV) O Lord, you have searched me and known me! You know when I sit down and when I rise up; you discern my thoughts from afar.
  4. My change of direction: Repentance
    1. Isaiah 1:16-17 (ESV) 16 Wash yourselves; make yourselves clean; remove the evil of your deeds from before my eyes; cease to do evil, 17 learn to do good; seek justice, correct oppression; bring justice to the fatherless, plead the widow’s cause.
    2. Jeremiah 36:3 (ESV) It may be that the house of Judah will hear all the disaster that I intend to do to them, so that every one may turn from his evil way, and that I may forgive their iniquity and their sin.”
    3. Jonah 3:10 (ESV) 10 When God saw what they did, how they turned from their evil way, God relented of the disaster that he had said he would do to them, and he did not do it.
